I must say that recently has not been the best time for the tourist industry in this country; firstly people aren’t going away at the moment, due to the Credit Crunch, of course this shouldn’t be a factor with regard to UK based holidays, however it seems to be the case which of course makes life very difficult for the UK resorts, such as Weston-Super-Mare (WSM) which yesterday suffered yet another mighty blow to its business.
With Monday came an awful disaster the much loved pier at WSM was raised to the ground (I never understood that phrase, but it’s fitting so I shall use it). Much to the dismay of every single Brummie, the pavilion built in the mid thirties was utterly destroyed by the ferocious fire which ravished the pier. I was shocked, truly and suddenly to the core; that pier was a family haunt for years each holiday, and to lose it in such a way has been truly disastrous. You must remember dear reader, that for most of us; things such as WSM’s pier formed a major part of our childhood right into adulthood.
Until we know the cause of this event all we can do is hope that it can be rebuilt, hope and pray that a savior is in the offing.
