    The problem is..

You’re stupid.  Over the past few days the silliness of people has hit me like a train.  We’re getting dumber.  It would seem at an alarming rate.  Gone are the days that we could all string together an intelligible sentence and gone are the days that people read for recreation.  I love to read; anything in fact.  I love to peruse a book with a nice cup of coffee preferably in a Starbucks.  (I’m going for sponsorship by name dropping; or at least a free cappuccino).

I think people really need to start to read again.  There are so many wonderful books to read out there and that they’re not even expensive, you can even get them free from this place called a library; you have t0 return them though.  Last week I was on the train taking one of my usual jaunts down to Cheltenham.  Just a few months ago you would see scores of people reading on the train enjoying the brief moment of downtime before their lives started up again in a raucous fashion.  On this train journey there was none of that.  Just a carriage full of nothing.  People staring blankly into the distance as the train sped on it’s journey through the country side.

I like to see people reading.  It gives me faith that the human race is not in a slow decline into nothingness.  I beg of you please get a book and read it.  Enjoy it.  Make the pictures in your head as you read the words on the page.

    Finally!

Posted in Thoughts on Things... at 17:34 on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 by Mr. Rant

Finally we’ve had the news every one has been waiting for! The iPhone 3G is actually going to be good now!

Here’s a very brief overview of what’s coming:

    - Spotlight (search) is said to work well
    - SMS messages are sent in the background, which means you can type a new message while the old one is sending
    - Notes can be used in landscape
    - “Find my iPhone/iPod Touch” option available under MobileMe, which presumably allows you to locate your iPhone from Me.com
    - Backups of your iPhone or iPod Touch can be encrypted in iTunes
    - Notes will sync

There’s many, many more things that will be coming in Version 3.0 if the iPhone OS!

    A Minor Gripe…

Posted in Anger Level 3 & The Blog at 1:41 on Sunday, March 15th, 2009 by Mr. Rant

As you can see this little old blog is back to it’s usual styling.  I’m sad to see the crazy background of noses go I really liked them. Kind of psychedelic. Anyway, it’s back to being it’s usual boring self.

I plan to do some major redesign work in the next few weeks, so watch out for some updates, better integration with Twitter and the beginnings of my “Have a Rant on me campaign!”.   You should see changes in the next few days when I start recoding and jigging the page designs around.  So it should be a few interesting and exciting weeks for this blog.

    Now on with The Rant…

I’ve always been a supporter of some charities, even though I’m miserable and most of the time screaming at the world I do like to make a difference if I can.  I support a wildlife charity called Secret World, it’s not by any stretch of the imagination anything remotely kinky, it’s mostly about badgers.  I support them mainly because our natural wildlife is so pushed these days to survive with the problems we’ve caused for it, that it needs the intervention of ‘man’ to help out every now and then; and besides I like badgers.

Something grated on me last night.  I usually enjoy Comic Relief; it’s good wholesome fun – most of the time.  However something made me see it in a new light.  It’s been said many things that Comic Relief is all about Africa and for the most part it is; it is this with which I disagree.  Charity starts at home is what I was always told and to me that’s the way it should be.  I understand and get why we need to help people in other countries that’s a basic human compunction, the need to help; ‘human nature’.

It annoys me vehemently that in a time of recession at home we’re being told that we should put our hands in our pockets and support people with the little money we have or not as the case is likely to be.  As I said I’m not a hard person… much but I really started to disagree with Comic Relief last night. I have a pang of guilt writing this but it needed to be said and someone needed to say it.

Derek Acorah – Famous Pet Pyschic…?

Posted in What were you thinking? at 23:57 on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 by Mr. Rant

I like it when you stumble on something so potentially disastrous that you can’t let go of it and you feel the need to watch the entire thing.  This is the way that I’m struck with Derek Acorah formally of Most Haunted; which is I must admit one of the most entertaining programmes that has ever been produced, not because it pertains to be serious but because it’s glaringly obvious that most of it, if not all of it is faked.  I love silly things and most of all I love to rip the piss out of something, maybe it’s a British trait that we’re incredibly good at laughing at ourselves and that we understand irony and sarcasm.

I’ve been watching Acroah’s programme and I’m in fits of laughter. He really does take himself and his “talents” very seriously, with his spirit guide Sam; apparently a Cherokee Indian. Yes, we know he’s a cold reader, but its fucking funny to see him run about the studio and ask the audience “fishing” questions. I think I’ll apply to be in the audience and foil his dastardly plan, by just answering yes to everything he’ll think he’s hit the jackpot.

Acorah: Have you had a woman in you life called Jessica?

    Me: Yes.

    Acorah: Did she die?

    Me: Yes.

    Acorah: Was she a clown?

    Me: Yes.

    Acorah: I’m brilliant…

Me: Ye.. (No, I couldn’t take it that far!)
