    Challenge at the top?

Politics is a funny old thing, sometimes people challenge your authority and sometimes you have to fight to be heard.

Brew: The man for the job?

Brew: The man for the job?

This weekend we’ve seen the emergence of a challenge for power at Birmingham City Council, the ex-lord mayor Randal Brew has actively challenged the current leader Mike Whitby for his throne as leader of the council. As topics go this is a fairly major one, Mike has led the council for more than five years and in all honestly does an excellent job.  Mr Brew is currently the deputy lord mayor, but will in just two weeks loose that position at the Annual General Meeting.

    Whitby; A Proven Leader?

The challenge for power at BCC is going to be something to keep an eye on, we’ve today had word from Brew regarding the ensuing drama.  Brew has spoken to The Birmingham Post stating that:

“I’m the man for the job”

Whether he is or not is an entirely different thing, it’s true also that being lord mayor does not prepare you to lead the council.  It may make you aware of the protocol involved in the job, but that doesn’t mean that you will be able to make judgements on policies and be able to lead the largest local authority in Europe.

As reported by The Stirrer there are apparently fourteen for Whitby and twenty for  Brew, but when it comes down to it who will get the position is indeed in the votes, at a push will the twenty for Brew defect to Whitby, the smart money lies with the current leader. My allegiance lies with Whitby; an excellent public face for Birmingham and a proven leader.
