    People are too senstive

Posted in Thoughts on Things... at 8:10 on Saturday, February 5th, 2011 by Mr. Rant

There I said it.  People are too sensitive.  The internet is a great place for discussion, chat and also promotion, and yes I will admit that’s what I use it for most.  Since I started this blog I’ve been non-actively partaking in self promotion most of it via Twitter.

You see I don’t promote this blog at all and the footfall of hits comes mainly through Google searches and also via searches done on the social network site Twitter.  For my purposes it’s ideal, I don’t particularly care if you want to follow me either here or on Twitter, this website would still exist even if Twitter didn’t.

I have a problem with people being sensitive online, yes we have feelings and words can hurt but I have never set out to actively upset anyone online.  What’s the point? There isn’t one.  If you read the About the Rant page written when this website was first built, it says that I will not apologise for my comments, and I stand by that.  I don’t think people get the whole idea of free speech, promotion and being able to say what ever you want and that really annoys me.

I have made some great friends via the internet and they’re lovely people, it just irritates me that people get extremely het up over the most trivial of events.  Personally I bowed out of this website for a period for personal and legal reasons.

You see when you write an edgy article that berates someone, you have to expect some comeback from it, but alas, it has never been the intention of this website to cause ructions between people and if it has I will apologise for that, there’s a difference in writing something upsetting and writing something edgy.  It’s a fine line but I’ve always attempted to do it well.  You will find that a lot of what I write is written from an almost comical point of view, and the if that causes offence there is nothing I can do.

It’s not about upsetting people, that’s not the intention, it’s about writing from my point of view and if you want to read it feel free otherwise, I’m not keeping you here, you have to remember that I invest a lot of time in this and other websites I run and I do it because I enjoy it, not because I have to.

I would just like for once, to have a nice simple day where people don’t fly off the hook at the merest thing.

Maybe I’m in the wrong business if it’s starting to get me?

Kenneth Tong… Completely a Dick. (Update)

Posted in Anger Level 4 & Twitter at 18:42 on Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 by Mr. Rant

Well, this is turn up for the books isn’t it? Kenneth Tong has now posted a tweet saying that his managed anorexia campaign was a hoax, well that makes it all better then doesn’t it?

    No, it doesn’t.

He states his reasons for picking an offensive and sickening topic to promote was to conduct an experiment to see if twitter can be used to garner huge publicity.  It worked but here at Rant Towers we’re still unsure as to whether to believe him or not.

You have to think that after so much bad publicity, wouldn’t someone post something reversing their actions even if they did still believe it? Well we wouldn’t here but some people might.

You can read his comments below.

    Kenneth Tong

    On Tuesday 11th January 2011, @MrKennethTong said:

I think it is time for to come clean. The whole size zero thing is a hoax. It came about after an interesting discussion I had with a friend of mine. The discussion centered round whether it was possible, to go from nowhere to be a globally recognized figure within a week harnessing the power of the internet and specifically Twitter, which I have always maintained is a better medium than national TV. My friend said it wasn’t possible. I said it was. To prove him wrong, I decided as a hoax to promote via Twitter something that was universally appalling, I chose managed anorexia. I would like to make it clear, I chose the subject as a hoax as I knew it’d be appalling to men and women. The campaign has worked; I have been a Trending topic on Twitter for over a week. I am scheduled to appear on TV, the Press and Radio shows, over the course of the next week: Grazia, Telegraph, The Sun, The Sunday Times etc. Now it’s time to come clean and stop the bandwagon. My honest personal opinion on managed anorexia is it is an disgusting and illogical idea. It is a mental illness. It cannot be managed. To all the people I have offended as part of this scientific experiment, I would like to apologize to you and to show my sincerity I will making a sizeable donation to beat: the leading UK charity for people with eating disorders and their families. Furthermore, I have decided to auction my custom Apple iPod Nano watch on Ebay, the proceeds from this will be going to the charity, beat.

Now if you don’t mind I’ll go back to actually focussing on something important and Mr. Tong you can go and crawl back under which ever rock you came from, now fuck off.

    Kenneth Tong – Completely Wrong.

Posted in Anger Level 4 at 15:22 on Saturday, January 8th, 2011 by Mr. Rant

Here we go and again, Twitter is a aflame with disgust at the recent Tweets of Kenneth Tong, over the past few months the self styled playboy has been posting offensive and sickening Tweets on the social networking website focussing on his “Endorsement of managed Anorexia”.

    He’s clearly forgetting something.

Let’s just take a moment to discuss what Anorexia actually is.  The following is an excerpt from the Merriam-Webster MedLine Plus service.

A serious eating disorder primarily of young women in their teens and early twenties that is characterized especially by a pathological fear of weight gain leading to faulty eating patterns, malnutrition, and usually excessive weight loss

So now we’ve summed it up, it’s pretty obvious that Anorexia is a severe mental health illness which can lead to death.  Now Mr. Tong why are you endorsing it’s use for weight loss? What exactly are you going to get out of it, except a load of publicity for about a week before you’re forgotten and we all move on to the next idiot? Mr. Tong is under the impression that encouraging young impressionable people to starve themselves is the right thing to do.  I have first hand experience of helping someone with a severe eating disorder and let me tell you this it’s not fun.  I watch someone put themselves through a horrifying ordeal on a daily basis to make themselves thin, and guess what?

There was nothing I could do to stop them.

So Mr. Tong before you spout you’re hateful and sickening bullshit to everyone take a moment to think about the people who have to clean up the mess people like you cause, and those who have to deal with the effects of an eating disorder on those they care about.  Grow up and come to the real world.  Alternatively keep your bullshit to yourself and don’t bother us anymore.

    Most Haunted Live…

Posted in Entertainment at 1:00 on Monday, November 2nd, 2009 by Mr. Rant

I have a confession to make.  It’s a very guilty pleasure of mine to partake in a somewhat trashy programme called Most Haunted Live.  In case you haven’t heard of it, stand by there’s a brief guide coming up.  The idea behind the programme is as it sounds; there’s a team of paranormal investigators who travel around the U.K (mostly) and investigate creepy-goings-on.

Whether or not you believe in the paranormal this programme is great Paratainment (Thanks must be given to: @SlapnutzUK for that great turn of phrase) – I like it because it is just that, great entertainment and something you can really giggle over.

This time around the show ran for eight consecutive nights broadcast through cable channel LivingTv, the crew were in the north-east of England looking at some creepy locations – interestingly enough I’d missed the first few nights, no great shame as the show is a breeze to catch up with.  Paul Ross (Our MC, presenter and also master of the ‘Shortest of Short Breaks) does a great job of continuously recapping the night over and over, and yes admittedly it does wear thin towards the end of the run.

It’s important to point out that the show is serious.  It’s serious about its intentions and tries to remain in the realm of reality, often they just about manage it, in between the ‘Wigging Out’ (A technical term) and the constant tirade of abuse directed towards Karl (the husband of the main presenter Yvette).  Yvette attempts to keep the team in tow and prevent a mass break down of the sombre mood into one of mass-hysteria – on night seven she failed miserably.

During a seance in an old pub, some of the crew began to feel nauseous, it must be said that this is categorically not the first time this has happened.  It’s a regular feature of the show, although I often wished that they would show the contents of a stomach once in while just to prove that they are really feeling green.  Of course this programme is relatively classed as family entertainment.  I would agree with this in part.  The only exception that would exempt it’s family status would be the vulgarity of the language in the show (not something that bothers me, fuck it, I couldn’t give a damn), but alas I fear this may disparage a mother from letting her young daughter watch a programme where the worst of the worst words are slipped out amongst other ones.

A thing of worth to note about Most Haunted Live is that it is great T.V.  It makes you laugh and will make you cry when they start to mess around on camera while orders are barked by Yvette in a militaristic style.  I would also suggest that you partake in the discussion on Twitter using the hash tag #mosthauntedlive, some of the people on the discussion are terribly funny and are worth a follow.

I must dedicate this post to them, without those people who entertain you via Twitter; Most Haunted Live would not be half as good as it is.
